BTech Admission Guide Lines 2020 – 21

To get admission in colleges

Students who got allotment in Government or Government-Aided Engineering Colleges, as per the list published by Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, can get admission in one of the following ways.

  • Conventional method: Students attend the admission process at the allotted college.
  • Virtual admission
Conventional method

Students should submit all the necessary certificates, in original, at the allotted college. He/She must be present at the allotted time with parent or guardian. Each college will publish its admission schedule in the web-site. Student should present a valid identity proof (Aadhar card, voter id, or similar document), in original, at the time of admission.

In case the student is unable to attend the admission process at the allotted college, he/she can authorize a person. This person shall produce the authorization letter signed by the student and the parent. The authorized person shall have the original of an identity proof with him.

After verifying the documents, the college will issue admission memo.

Virtual Admission

Due to valid reasons, in case a student is unable to attend the admission process at the allotted college, he can take admission by virtual admission. In this mode, the student do not have to report at the allotted college. Instead, he can report at a convenient reporting centre.

All the students seeking admission in virtual mode shall report at any of the Reporting Centres given in the list.

The students shall submit the following documents at the Reporting Centre.

1) Application for seeking virtual admission – signed by both student and parent
2)  Copy of allotment memo
3) Transfer Certificate – in Original. Copy is not sufficient.
4) Conduct certificate – in original. Copy is not sufficient.
5) Undertaking in the prescribed format, stating that the originals of certificates will be presented later, signed by both student and the parent.
6) Copy of an identity proof. Original must be presented for verification.
7) In case the student is not reporting at the Reporting Centre, he can authorize a person. Authorization letter should have the signatures of student and the parent. Copy of an identity proof of authorized person must be submitted. Original must be presented for verification.

After submitting the above documents at the reporting centre, students should send the scanned copy of their certificates to the allotted college.

After verifying the documents, the allotted college will inform the student about his admission by e-mail.

Students have to keep scanned/sufficient copies of certificates for own use, in the case of original certificates handed over to the reporting centre.

Candidates, who avail virtual admission, should submit the documents before 4 pm on 30th October, 2020.

Documents/Certificates to be produced at the time of Admission
  1. Allotment Memo
  2. Admit Card
  3. Receipt of the fee remitted in bank
  4. Mark data sheet of Entrance Exam
  5. Higher Secondary/Plus Two equivalent certificate with mark sheet
  6. SSLC/10th certificate (To prove Date of Birth)
  7. Physical Fitness Certificate
  8. TC & Conduct certificate
  9. Passport Size photo (2 Copies)
  10. Caste certificate if applicable
  11. Income certificate if applicable
  12. Migration certificate if applicable
  13. Non-Creamy layer certificate if applicable
  14. Nativity certificate if applicable
First Year Admission:

Candidates for admission to the B.Tech. Engineering degree course shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of State Board of Kerala or examinations recognized equivalent by any Universities of Kerala, with 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics put together. Candidates, belonging to Socially and Educationally Backwards classes with a total family annual income not exceeding the limit notified by the Government of Kerala from time to time, need only 45% marks in Mathematics and 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics put together. Candidates belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe need only a pass in the qualifying examination. Candidates have to qualify the State Level Entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations or State level/National level Entrance Examination approved by the Government of Kerala as equivalent.
Criteria for selection and method of admission to merit/management seats for Engineering degree courses conducted by Government/Aided/Self-financing colleges affiliated to KTU shall be governed by the rules/regulations framed by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations or other competent authority appointed by the Government of Kerala, in consultation with the University and without contravening with the stipulation of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). In all matters related to selection and admission, the decisions of the University shall be final. The students admitted by affiliated colleges violating the above regulations will not be eligible for registration to University Examinations and contravention of the regulations shall lead to withdrawal/suspension of affiliation.

Admission For Diploma Holders:
1. A candidate who has a diploma in engineering awarded by the State Board of Technical Examination or an examination recognized equivalent by the State Board of Technical Education after undergoing regular course of 3 years in an institute approved by AICTE, securing a cumulative minimum of 50% marks in the second and third years diploma examination shall be eligible to be admitted to the first year
2. B.Tech. programme of the University of Calicut (hereafter, the University, unless otherwise specified) if he/she has qualified the entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations or State level/National level Entrance Examination approved by the Government of Kerala as equivalent. Diploma holders with 60% marks (50% in case of SC/ST) are also eligible for admission to the 3rd semester (regular full-time batch) engineering degree course (B.Tech.) under the lateral entry scheme provided they qualify the Entrance Examination conducted for the lateral entry scheme by the state Government. These students are not required to study any deficiency papers of the combined first and second semesters. Admission of all candidates under the lateral entry scheme shall be completed latest by 31st May.
